I was recently asked why I don’t talk about the transformational games I run on my blog. And indeed, I haven’t talked about it here on the blog. But I’ll start today with some useful and interesting information – “What is a transformational game?”
A transformational game is a board game, a kind of way of learning about yourself. This game is focused on working with the personal needs of participants, and is aimed at finding optimal solutions and overcoming personal crises and difficult situations, as well as achieving personal goals.
Why the game?
Because it’s interesting, it’s fascinating, it’s exciting, like board games. It is a great pastime, but at the same time it is a deep process of learning about yourself, inner workings out of the questions that are acute for you, studying from different sides those spheres of life in which you want to change.
Transformational, because it brings discoveries about yourself, after which you can not stay the same, the game gives you the opportunity to see how you act in your life now and why you do not get what you want, as well as what you need to change to improve your life. The game is filled with insights and discoveries, strong emotions, unexpected twists and turns, and new knowledge that you can apply to your life.
Despite the game format, the transformation game is a training with deep elaboration of your question, problem or desire.
Genesis – This game is a favorite of mine, not because it’s one of the ones I host, but it’s also one of the ones I’ve played and am playing myself.
This is how its author Eugene Geller described the game:
“The main purpose of the Game is for a person to interact with their desires. Each of us has desires, dreams, goals that we would like to realize, but for various reasons we do not do it. The reasons can be different – time, circumstances, fear, or maybe ignorance of ways to achieve, unwillingness to seek help or external evaluation. Desires can be quite different – related to relationships, creativity, finding oneself, change of activity or something more specific – business, vacation, acquisitions or vice versa – completion of projects or relationships.
The game is, a simulator for yourself and your desire. It is an opportunity to take this desire, which is very desirable and, as it were, live with it together.
And here is where things get interesting – during the game process, unnecessary conditions or details “fall away” from the initial formulation of the desire, and only that which is ACTUALLY IMPORTANT to the player remains, i.e. that for which it is really worth realizing. And what is extremely important – the gameplay itself allows to fill this “renewed” desire with power and get from personal experience those skills or resources that can help in the realization of their dreams, desires, goals.
In addition, during the process, the player pays attention to such things that influence our desires as contacts, emotions, beliefs, memories, actions and, of course, choices.”
How’s the Genesis game going
You can play as a group of 1 to 4 people under the guidance of a certified coach. The time of the game is from 2 to 8 hours, depending on the number of participants. The game can be conducted online and in person. offline and online.
The Genesis game consists of the following steps:
- Request Formation. The dream, goal, desire, request is formed in the present tense, with an exploration of relevance, reality and importance to you.
- Genesis in the game – the start. To begin directly the game, you need to be “born” into it. At this stage, players take turns voicing their requests and throwing the white die. It is at this stage that the true wants and needs of the participants are revealed.
- Traversing the playing field through the four levels. Players take turns making moves by throwing dice. Moving around the field, receive focus cards, perform tasks. During the game, they answer questions from the coach and interact with other participants. Moving through the levels of the game, participants write down their insights, thoughts, certain actions, which in real life will help to get the desired result.
The four levels of the game are:
“Actions” – talk about what you do or don’t do in relation to your movement toward your dreams.
“Emotions, Feelings” – what emotions and feelings fill you when moving towards your goal, dream, and what inhibit you.
“Thoughts, Ideas” – what you think about your dream, what will happen when it comes true.
“Worldview” – how the result of the desired correlates with your values, worldview.
Summarizing the game. After passing all levels, the participant summarizes the game, draws conclusions. He takes with him a plan of action drawn up in the course of the game to move towards his dream, to the goal.
